Untreated childhood decay and later heart attack risk

A Finnish study of 755 children followed for almost 40 years provides evidence of a link between childhood decay and increased heart attack risk in adulthood.

The researchers emphasise both oral hygiene from an early age and treatment of damaged baby teeth.

BuKiZ milestone: dental visits from six months

On the 25th Dental Health Day, prevention for children was strengthened. On 25 September 2015, the German Federal Ministry of Health approved, subject to conditions, an important Federal Joint Committee resolution updating children's medical guidelines.

This established six referrals from paediatricians to dentists between six and 64 months of age. Linking medical and dental prevention is an important step towards additional early dental examinations before 30 months, whose regulation the legislature had already assigned to the Federal Joint Committee.
